on the issues. the u.s. government cannot randomly target citizens. what it can do under the laws of war is target enemy combatant anywhere at any time including on u.s. soil. >> they are wrong on this issue. the problem is if i call you an enemy combatant, how do we know if you are or aren't. that's me calling and accusing you of a crime should there be enough power by any politician, republican or democrat to say you are an enemy combatant and maybe a missile will drop on your house. i believe that is unjust and unconstitutional that if you are an american, people can't accuse you and call you a name. they are assuming that the person calling your name is on a mission and knows you are guilty of that. the way i see it is we have a lot of arab americans that live in deer born, michigan. the vast majority are good american people. say they have a cousin and e-mail them. say somebody thinks their cousin is a terrorist. for goodness sakes, would you drop bombs on people and say we are associated with terrorism and he's an enemy combatant. that's a lot different than someone with a grenade

in atlanta. the cuts once considered too painful to consider are now the law of the land. president obama and congressional republicans could not reach a compromise to avoid the $85 billion in automatic cuts. they will not happen all at once, but instead they will come over time. they are pointing fingers at each other over their failure to reach a deal. >> probably would be a lot better ways to reduce that spending than by the formula approach of the sequester. but we don't intend to spend a penny less as promised to the american people. >> these cuts are not smart, they will hurt our economy and cost us jobs. and congress can turn them off at any time as soon as both sides are willing to compromise. >> the cuts will hit different agencies in different ways. and there has been some confusion over how they will take effect. one good example is this, the faa held a conference to back away earlier this week, that 160 air traffic controller towers around the country would have to close on april one. others listening in were told the initial announcements of the cuts had not been authorized.

with another plan, right? >> well, we'll have to see, victor. you know, the president signed this into law, essentially, he executed this order last night at 8:30 p.m. this is it right here. and omb, the office of management and budget sent over an 83-page letter to the speaker of the house, john boehner, detailing, line by line, where all of these cuts are going to be going into effect over the next several weeks, over the next several months, depending on which department of the federal government you're talking about. and you can just look at the numbers, they're pretty staggering. $289 million for the centers for disease control. nearly $1 billion for fema, $3 billion to $4 billion for operations and maintenance for the navy, the army, the air force, and then the list goes on and on. and so that's why the president, in his weekly radio address, is saying, essentially, to the leaders of congress, hey, let's get back to the bargaining table. let's work out some kind of deal to make these cuts go away. here's what he had to say. >> i still believe we can and must replace these cuts with a

terror attack in u.s. history. now the son-in-law of osama bin laden is in the very city where al qaeda struck its deadly blow. he's now being held in new york city by federal authorities after being captured in jordan last week. cnn's crime and justice correspondent joe johns is coming in right now. what do you know? >> a member of the al qaeda inner circle, 47 years old, he's married to one of osama bin laden's daughter. he was born in kuwait but stripped from of his citizenship after the 9/11 attacks, though it's not clear at all how much, if anything, he had to do with the 9/11 attacks. he was taken into custody and held in jordan and apparently turned over to u.s. authorities only last week and that is how he made his way to new york. >> this is a guy who was a high school teacher in kuwait who shortly before 9/11 popped up in afghanistan and started, you know, speaking in videotapes, made a number of threatening comments and disappeared. he's had, as i'm air wa, no operation in al qaeda or in the decade since. obviously there are civil charges against him. >> he is expected to app
